EDUCATION

LASC helps people with their legal problems in a variety of ways, such as legal information, advice, or representation. LASC’s Education Team gives advice and representation to clients with issues like:

  • School Discipline (Out of School Suspension and Expulsion)
  • School Push Out (Emergency Removals, Parent Pick Up Request)
  • Special Education (Initial Evaluations, Implementation of Individual Education Programs, Implementation of 504 Plans)
  • Related Services (Transportation, Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy)
  • Behavior Supports (Behavior Intervention Plans and Functional Behavior Assessment)
  • Enrollment
  • Language Access
  • School Fees (Withholding Report Card or Transcript)
  • Bullying/Harassment
  • School Access for Homeless Students
  • Title IX Sex Discrimination

Parents and students can often handle common education issues with legal information. Visit the Resource Center for Do-It-Yourself tools like sample letters, frequently asked questions, and information about student rights in areas like special education, enrollment, discipline/removal, bullying, language access, discrimination/harassment, and school fees.

LASC may be able to represent you if you have a meeting with your school to discuss the way a student's health condition impacts their ability to learn. For example:

  • Individualized Education Plans
  • 504 Plans
  • Safety plans
  • Health plans
  • Behavior intervention plans
  • Related services
